So has anyone had any experiences with taking any geology classes? I took several last year to fulfill the science requirement for general education at my university. I found it to be a great experience, and I've always found science to be a difficult subject. Part of it was that I was lucky to have some incredible professors. But what I loved about it is that it was a subject that allowed me to get up close and personal with what I was studying. I'm totally blind, and I loved that there were samples of what we were studying that I could actually get my hands on. My professor even worked with me one on one and showed me some of the more tactile differences between certain minerals such as weight and texture and by the end of the semester I was able to identify these on my own. I was able to feel everything from a bomb from a volcano to a life size replica of a dinosaur skeleton, as well as several skulls from everything from a T-rex to a sabertooth.
I've taken several geology classes. I love the subject, and most other subjects
in science. Its my second love, after literature, but neither can compare to
history for me. I completely agree with you though.
I took a geology class in college, and it was a great experience for me as well. The professor was very accommodating, and the subject matter was interesting.
I loved geology. Growing up on the west coast of the U.S. we were right in the Ring of Fire. So plate tectonics is a reality for us in a way some other places maybe not. I find geology fascinating and really enjoyed those courses.
For the science credits at my college I decided to take geology. I took geology 110/111 witch was about natural disasters and then I took geology 101/103 the intro class. I enjoyed them both because as others have pointed out the labs were very hands on so we got to hold the rocks and minerals. I remember for the lab exams we had to identify the different types of minerals and rocks and a lot of them were by texture or by how they sound like slate. The teacher worked great with me and adapted the maps so I could feel them to identify parts of them. It was a good experience for me as well.
